Washington Megan's Law

Named after Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was put into federal law in 1995. Megan's Law demands that every state have a system in place for alerting local residents when a sexual offender is located in their neighborhood.
Megan was only seven years old when a prior sex offender that lived accross the street from her family, abducted, violently rapped, and killed her. It was concluded that if her family or other community members had known that a repeated sexual predator was housed amongst them, this assult would have been thwarted. With that in mind, the U.S. Congress legislated the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", also known as Megan's Law, without any objections.
